When you buy a 2x4 are you really expecting it to be 2 inches by 4 inches? We doubt it. Well that is exactly what happened in Palatine, IL. Not only did someone expect it to be 2″x4″, they were upset enough about it that they started a class action lawsuit. I know it sounds strange, but it’s true. - What is PlanSwift?
When is a 1/2 inch bolt not a 1/2 inch bolt. A 2x 4 has been this dimension for over 45 years. At one time a 2×4 was a 2×4 but it was rough sawn not dimensionally accurate or smooth. Today the lumber is accurate and smooth and has been for years. A stupid lawsuit. The problem with lawyers
Joe is correct, you can however go to a saw mill and by a 2×4 that is 2×4, however, if you want it surfaced on all four sides it becomes 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 ,but they will charge you money for that. So it is fair to say the cost of your 2×4 includes planing fees. Stupid lawyer , look it up , its been that way since before you where born. Whats next a lawsuit because a homeowner picked up 2x4s that were 92 and 5/8 instead of 8 ft.
